I can't tell you exactly how many times I've said that. It's my standby excuse whenever someone questions my cosmetics and/or beauty purchases - "but it's so pretty!" That excuse, with a shrug and a smile, usually lets me off the hook with anyone who might be stern with me.
I just can't help it. I love makeup. I'm a cosmetics junkie. A bath and body product believer. A fragrance fan. I love it all. High end, low end, foreign brand, homemade - you name it, I'll give it a shot. I'm willing to try just about everything once, and I buy up a storm. I've accumulated quite the "stash" (beauty message board speak for all the cosmetics that we own/have hoarded), and sadly, it's so ginormous that an unacceptable amount of it goes unused and often times, not even opened. My stash of new items is shameful, I'll admit it. I have a bad habit of buying in bulk (this past Wednesday, I purchased 11 lipglosses. That's right, ELEVEN - for those interested: 7 Beauty Rush from Victoria's Secret, 2 Mac from the Dame Edna collection, and 2 Sally Hansen Diamand Lipnotic Gem). But I'm hoping to rectify that, starting in 2009 (that's now!).
This is what leads me to my motivation to start this blog. I've decided to challenge myself. Every day, I am going to use one of the brand new items that I have sitting around. I might discover my next holy grail (beauty junkie speak for 'can't live without' item. Or I might realize that I wasted my money. But either way, I'll be USING what I own, and that will feel great. However, I do have all those "neglected" items sitting around too - so this is where the other part of my challenge will come into play. I know myself too well - I like to sleep as much as possible, which means some days I don't get a lot of time to do my makeup in the morning. Those days, I will reach for one of my "neglected" items - something I have in my stash that I haven't used in quite a while. They're easier for me to pull out than something brand new where I have to take off wrapers and packaging, plus, since I've had them for a while, I should have a good clue as how to wear it, and what I can wear it with. Problem solved!
I'll be covering cosmetics, bath and body products, and fragrances - because I love it all! I hope you'll come along for the ride with me! Of course, I won't just be blogging about my daily challenge. If I hear some buzz about new products, go hauling, or have a spa day - you'll hear about that too!
I know there are a lot of beauty blogs out there - so what is going to set me apart, make me different, or worthy of reading? What's in it for you? (so my college business classes are making an appearance - yay!) Well, I'm honest. I'll tell it to you like it is. I've fallen victim to the hype, and I've regretted it - I hope to help people stay out of that trap. I love and I'm passionate about the stuff - ask anyone I know :) My perspective is pretty broad - I've tried so many things, I think I've got a good reference point for product comparison. And I'm fun. Sarcastic, if you will. If you like the snark, I'll bring it, cuz that's just how I roll.
I know the blog isn't pretty yet, but I've got a couple artistic friends who I think will hook me up with some amazing artwork. Please be patient with me - patience is a virtue, as the saying goes!
